The holiday's were very fun for us this year. Luca turned 6 months old on Christmas, which makes that his half birthday! To commemorate this date we decided to create some art with his handprint. This little project was inspired by my friend Nhiki who gifted Luca a paint set and canvas for Christmas :) It was a little messy but the outcome was worth it. We also created one as a gift! The horse handprint art was in honor of his Chinese zodiac: Year of the Horse & the crab was made for his aunty Mariam. They're both crabby Cancer's lol!
MATERIALS:
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brushes
- Blank canvas (depending on which size you get, Walmart sells them in packs)
- Hand wipes for baby
I found it easiest to have Luca sitting in his bumbo, or high chair when I had to stamp his hand on the canvas. Distraction is key. If he didn't know I was going to stamp his hand, the print came out perfect. As you can see in the crab photo, one of the hand prints are a little off because he was pretty much over it. Babies won't stretch out their hands naturally so you will have to hold their fingertips to open their palms. I pressed down on his hand to get a good print and after that I cleaned him up and gave him some avocado as a treat :)
For each animal, I just browsed through pinterest for inspiration and just went with the flow. Each canvas has his initials and year on the bottom right, and on the back I added the date and a tittle for the artwork. My sister adored her home made gift and it didn't cost us a lot! Who wouldn't want a package in the mail that delivers so much joy!?
